The Town of Cutler Bay was seeking professional services to catalog all existing catch basins (800+) and outfalls (69) into GIS. The survey control was based on the North American Datum (NAD) 83/99, and the vertical control was based on the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD) of 1929. To expedite data collection CGA’s survey department utilized real time kinematic (RTK) GPS equipment. The final goal, was to provide the Town with a spatially accurate (horizontal plus or minus 0.2 feet and vertical plus or minus 0.3 feet) inventory that was integrated into their specific Tyler Stormwater Asset Inventory Management system. A custom built mobile GIS application was developed by the GIS Department for the survey crews to collect the locations and data on each structure in one step. The GIS Department coordinated with the Town to have each stormwater structure cleaned and repaired as necessary. Total project included the data development of over 2100 catch basins, 110 outfalls, and over 32 miles of drainage pipes and geometric networks. This project was completed on time and under budget.
