WEST PALM BEACH, FL—February 15, 2016—Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. (CGA) has been awarded the contract for the design of Pedestrian Safety and Streetscape Improvements along Tamarind Avenue in West Palm Beach. This is an exciting project for both CGA and the City as it will spur the renewal of the City’s Historic Progressive Northwest Neighborhood.
Partially funded by a TAP Grant, the project includes Civil Engineering, Landscaping, Environmental Services and Survey. The improved roadway will feature sidewalks on both sides of the road for enhanced walkability and ADA compliance, bicycle accommodations and streetscaping all in support of the City’s Complete Streets Initiative.
Among the unique tasks associated with this project is coordination with the South Florida Regional Transit Authority (SFRTA); whose double tracks are within close proximity to the roadway. All improvements including landscaping and pedestrian scale street lighting will have to be designed so as to not foul the tracks of this important commercial and commuter railway if they were to ever fall. Additionally, the project will be updating antiquated drainage, water, and sewer systems originating back to the 1920s. This will require all of the vitrified clay drainage pipes to be replaced with a new reinforced concrete pipe network with water quality and pipe hydraulic capacity improvements.
