Delay time at one of the city’s most congested intersections could be reduced by 23 seconds, a consultant told the public during a workshop Wednesday.
About 100 people attended the two-hour meeting regarding the intersection of East Palmetto Park Road and Northeast/Southeast Fifth Avenue. It was the second public workshop held as part of a $50,000 study aimed at reducing traffic tie-ups at the downtown intersection.
Eric Czerniejewski, director of traffic engineering for Calvin, Giordano & Associates, presented alternatives that would reduce delay time at the intersection, adjacent to Silver Palm Park. The options included creating buffered bike lanes on Southeast Fifth Avenue, adding a right-turn lane on Northeast Fifth Avenue and leaving the intersection as is.
